Why Organisations Need Digital Strategies

11th November 2025

There are many competing demands on staff time and budgets. You may find yourself juggling several of these every day:

These challenges depend on your organisation’s size, culture and goals, as well as individual experience and role.

A digital strategy can help address many of these pressures by:

  • Creating a shared vision that supports organisational priorities.
  • Setting clear principles to guide future decisions.
  • Identifying key projects to achieve your goals.
  • Defining measurable outcomes and milestones.

Organisations adopt digital strategies to improve efficiency, collaboration and competitiveness. A well-defined plan ensures technology investments deliver real value, streamline workflows, and reduce duplication. This not only makes everyday tasks easier but strengthens communication and teamwork across locations, whether staff work on-site, remotely or in hybrid arrangements.

A strong digital strategy also enables organisations to adapt quickly to new market trends, regulations or customer needs, helping them stay agile, resilient and positioned for long-term success. Clear vision and values are also critical when developing and implementing digital strategies because they provide direction, alignment and consistency.

Vision Statements

Here are some examples of overarching vision statements for some well-known organisations.

The Walt Disney Company: “To entertain, inform and inspire people around the globe through the power of unparalleled storytelling, reflecting the iconic brands, creative minds and innovative technologies that make ours the world’s premier entertainment company.”

Tesla: “To accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.”

LinkedIn: “Connect the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful.”

British Red Cross: “Our vision is of a world where everyone gets the help they need in a crisis.”

The Language of Vision

The language of the organisation’s vision provides a real sense of how it works and this needs to be reflected in the digital vision to pave the way for a successful digital strategy which is embraced by everyone in the organisation.

Activity:

  • Look at your own organisation’s vision and values.
  • Identify key words from the vision.
  • Use those key words to identify core themes that can be used as the basis for your digital vision.
